·        Hardiness Zones:  4-8

·        Height: 9-12 inches

·        Spread: 9-12 inches

·        Bloom Time: April to May

·        Bloom: upright, purple bell-shaped flowers with bright gold stamens followed by silky plume-like seedheads which remain on the plant for several weeks

·        Light: full sun

·        Soil: best in humusy, gritty, well-drained soil

·        Moisture: medium; drought tolerant once established

·        Use: rock garden, front of perennial border, combines well with spring-flowering bulbs and ground covers; various medicinal uses; juice of purple sepals produces a non-permanent stain which as been used to color Easter eggs 

·        Care: does not tolerate root disturbance well, but can be transplanted; do not fertilize heavily

·        Bloom: abundance of green-bronze inflorescences create an airy, translucent bronze-hued veil

·        Light: one of few ornamental grasses that grows well in part shade
