· Care: remove suckers promptly to prevent plants from spreading to form thickets

· Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems; susceptible to fireblight, leaf spot, powdery mildew and die back

· Notes: oval green leaves are felty-white underneath; deer resistant

· Moisture: medium to wet

· Use: pond margins, low spots or shrub borders; may also be grown in shallow water at the edge of ponds or large water gardens; attracts pollinators and hummingbirds

· Care: pruning is usually not necessary, but may be done in early spring to shape; if plants become unmanageable, however, cut back near to the ground in early spring to revitalize
