·        Bloom Time: March to April (late winter, before crocus)

·        Bloom: showy bright yellow, upward-facing, buttercup-like flowers; each flower supported by a collar of leaf-like brachts on 3 to 4 inch stalks

·        Light: full sun to part shade

·        Soil: humus-rich, well-drained

·        Moisture: medium, consistent

·        Use: naturalized areas, mass plantings under trees or in front of shrubs, border fronts, rock gardens, along paths or walkways, containers

·        Care: low maintenance

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems

·        Native to: Southern France to Bulgaria

·        Notes: dormant in summer; best in locations with sun during time of bloom but which  become increasingly shady in warmer months; grow from tubers (plant in late summer/early fall, tuber is poisonous); best left undisturbed once planted; plants will naturalize over time and may self seed; black walnut tolerant; deer tolerant
