·        Bloom: slightly fragrant yellow blooms at branch tips; each trumpet-shaped flower is surrounded by a silver dollar-sized "ghostly" silver-blue bracht; flowers mature to red berries in late summer; brachts persist

·        Light: full sun to part shade; performs best in part shade in hot summer climates

·        Soil: humusy, organically-rich, well-drained; adaptable to other well-drained soils

·        Moisture: medium, consistent; intolerant of standing water; drought tolerant once established

·        Use: vertical accent for trellis or arbor; cascading from top of wall; mass for screen; pollinator garden; large containers; attracts birds, hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators; berries feed birds

·        Care: if desired, prune to shape immediately after flowering; prune out dead stems as needed

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems; watch for aphids; may experience leaf spot or powdery mildew in high humidity

·        Native to: species native to northeastern U.S.

·        Notes: deciduous non-invasive climbing shrub; interesting foliage, flower, and berry progression; unusual silvery blue-green foliage emerges as saucer-like discs around the stem; deer resistant
