·        Bloom: clusters of pink to lavender-blue bells over foliage mound

·        Light: part (AM) sun to shade

·        Soil: rich, humusy, moist, well-drained soil; dislikes competition from surface-rooted trees; prefers cool roots

·        Moisture: medium, consistent; may become dormant in extended dry spells

·        Use: shady borders, shade garden, woodland garden, ground cover under ferns and spring-flowering bulbs; cut flower; attracts butterflies and hummingbirds

·        Care: cut plants back to 3 inches after blooming to rejuvenate foliage; can be divided every 4-6 years right after flowering in late summer or early autumn

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems; may incur slug damage; good resistance to powdery mildew

·        Native to: genus native to Europe and western Asia

·        Notes: attractive upright mounds of semi-evergreen foliage; deep-green green leaves are heavily-mottled with silver and take on a purple tint in fall;  pollinator-friendly; deer resistant
