·        Bloom Time: May to July

·        Bloom: small (1/2 inch), fragrant, velvety, double rose-pink blooms on wiry stems above foliage mat

·        Light: full sun; light afternoon shade in hot areas

·        Soil: gritty, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soils

·        Moisture: low to medium; drought tolerant once established

·        Use: rock gardens, borders, edging, ground cover, rocky slopes, containers, green roof semi-intensive; flowers attract bees and butterflies;

·        Care: low maintenance; shear off faded flowers to extend bloom; divide every few years in early spring or when centers start to die out

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems; crown rot may occur in wet, poorly-drained soil or if winter mulch is not removed in spring; watch for aphids, slugs, caterpillars, and verticillium wilt

·        Native to: species native to temperate regions of Europe, once abundant in Cheddar Gorge (N. Somerset) England

·        Notes: spreading low mound of  grassy, olive-green foliage; foliage remains green in all but the coldest winters;  deer resistant; toxic to dogs, cats, and horses
