·        Bloom: outward facing, bright yellow flowers with yellow or brown spurs rising above foliage on wiry stems

·        Light: part shade to full shade

·        Soil: average, well-drained; prefers organically-rich, loamy soils with even moisture, but adapts to various soil conditions

·        Moisture: medium to dry once established; prefers to be dry in summer; drought and dry shade tolerant

·        Use: groundcover, edge for shady areas, mass in woodland garden, wild garden or naturalized areas, shady areas of rock gardens or border fronts;  flowers attract bees

·        Care: cut back any remaining old foliage in late winter; provide layer of mulch

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems

·        Native to: species native to the Caucasus, Georgia

·        Notes: slow-growing, long-lived, rhizomatous, broadleaf evergreen perennial groundcover; toothless, glossy dark-green leaves emerge yellow/bronze; drought and dry shade tolerant;  deer resistant except tender new growth
