·        Soil: prefers moist, rich, well-drained, sandy loams; but tolerates poor, rocky soils

·        Moisture: moist;  tolerates some drought once established

·        Use: low hedges, shrub borders, rock gardens, naturalized areas, groundcover on slopes; nectar-rich flowers attract pollinators and other insects

·        Care: low maintenance; flowers do not require deadheading

·        Concerns: no serious insect or disease problems

·        Native to: species native to Eastern Canada and Northeastern and North Central U.S.

·        Notes: compact shrub with dense, rounded habit rarely needs pruning; noted for the contrast of its blue-green linear foliage against the brilliant yellow flowers; salt-tolerant; deer-resistant
