·        Use: shade, alpine, rock, and woodland gardens; borders and edges; massed ground cover; containers; cut flower

·        Care: low maintenance; apply organic winter mulch to prevent heaving, but remove it in spring to deter slugs; clumps may be divided in spring or fall

·        Concerns: slugs, not deer resistant

·        Native to: genus native to Japan and Korea

·        Notes: small to medium-sized, low-growing hosta with compact mounds of dramatic foliage; broad, slightly-wavy, heart-shaped leaves have streaked green centers surrounded by wide (1/2 to 1 inch) golden-chartreuse margins; flowers attract hummingbirds and pollinating insects; rabbit resistant; tolerant of urban pollution
